Fundemental Human Needs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamental_human_needs
Max-Neef classifies the fundamental human needs as:
subsistence,
protection,
affection,
understanding,
participation,
recreation (in the sense of leisure, time to reflect, or idleness),
creation,
identity
freedom.
Needs are also defined according to the existential categories of being, having, doing and interacting, and from these dimensions, a 36 cell matrix is developed [4]
The matrix is on the above web page.
What the above page does not say is the relative importance of each of the needs as experienced by different personality types.
This is a revised post. The original, I was unhappy with is as follows:
Realizing that everyone has the same basic needs that you have. Here are some of them:
1. love given and received
2. food, shelter, and preservation of life
3. a feeling of importance
4. a sense of being needed and useful
5. money and the things that money will buy
6. life after death
7. health and happiness
8. the well-being of children and family members
9. the craving of fellowship and oneness with God
10. a feeling that life is worthwhile and that they are making a contribution to this world

My addition: People need to be related to as they really are (or as they think they are), not as an image of the viewer. e.g. if the Other thinks you are a Teddy Bear Artisan chasing girls into the woods, when you are instead a shy introspective dreamer Dragon Idealist on Cloud Nine, then is going to be some fundemental confusion.
Well, I thought that the rain would cool things down
But it looks like it don't.
I'd like to get you to change your mind
But it looks like you won't.
From now on I'll be busy,
Ain't goin' nowhere fast.
I'm just glad it's over
And I'm seeing the real you at last.

Nothing about benevolence or giving to charity in the "needs" section. This may NOT be a guilt complex (wrong analysis) but a part of certain characters.
