Native Americans - 1

It is axiomatic that the White settlers did not understand the Native Americans. seeing a people banded together, travelling together, sharing together the resources of food, the oustiders jumped to the conclusion that there was a common interest, that there was a fixed and formal government, the chief as a high magistrate with power to promulgate and enforce laws, upon all the people. Believing in this interpretation, they made treaties and received plots of land. It was a theory the Native Americans had never accepted or even comprehended.
